Magdalena Lena / Cecelia Falhman

November 10, 1927 - April 10, 2013

Lena passed away peacefully on April 10, 2013 with her family by her side.

A Celebration of Life was held April 16, 2013 at the Royal Canadian Legion.

At the tender age of six, she was removed along with her little sister from her family home into an orphanage. At the age of ten after working very hard for the summer on the farm of Joseph and Philomena Reinhardt she was adopted into their family, and became the older sister to their adoptive son John. A few years later Grandpa completed the family by adopting Lena’s little sister Eva also. She married Pete on April 20, 1946 and they began their lives on the prairies. They had six children, Margaret, Edward, Richard, Garry, Brenda and Shirley.Tragically in June of 1960 her eldest child Margaret was taken in her 15th year.

They moved to the beautiful town of Nakusp in 1964 where she first worked for the Red & White grocery store, before becoming employed with Canada Post where she worked for 20 years. Many years of her life were spent volunteering for numerous organizations, helping in any way she could from flipping burgers at a hockey game, selling liquor tickets at dances, to greeting people at the door at craft fairs.

She had a very big heart full of love for everyone. She was all about family and friends and loved to share her family with her friends on any occasion. She never wanted anyone to be alone. Her Sunday dinners started out with a roast in the oven for about ½ dozen people and on most occasions ended up with chicken, sausages, pork chops being added as family and friends were added to the list of dinner guests. These dinners were awesome and always ended up with a Sara Lee chocolate cake coming out of the freezer to top off the meal.

She will be remembered for all the canning sessions doing peaches, tomatoes, pickles and also of her teaching us how to make cabbage rolls, borscht, chicken soup and of course the infamous Dough Soup.

She was very devoted to her family and would attend or follow in her brown camper van to whatever function they would be at whether it was gymkhana’s, race meets, hockey schools or figure skating.

She had an uncanny ability to predict the weather and it was not uncommon for her to be asked how she was feeling which indicated rain or sunshine, and she was always right.

She loved to play bingo, hence the nickname “Lucky Lena”. She loved music and always enjoyed singing along with her beautiful voice.

She was a homemaker, a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, but most of all she was a great friend to everyone who crossed her path.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support, the food, cards, hugs and especially all the kind words about our Mother, Grandmother.

She will be dearly missed by her children Ed (Barb), Richard (Betty) Garry (Darcy), Brenda (Walter), and Shirley (Dale). Her 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and her many wonderful friends.
