Rudolph Herman Rudy Goerzen

March 21, 1942 - May 25, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of Rudy after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rudy’s family was very special to him, as were his many friends.  He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Ethel of 28 years, his son Doug (JoAnn) Goerzen, Cory (Dave) Goldfinch, stepsons Rod Gross, Todd (Mia) Gross; his brothers Walter (Irene) Goerzen, Art (Inga) Goerzen and sister Louise Deglow.; his grandchildren Jessica, Chet and Jase Goerzen, Chrissy Robertson, Thomas and Kayla Goldfinch, Ethan and Emerson Gross; great grandchildren Taylor, Hailey, Alyssa and Braeden Robertson; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends in Kelowna, Burton and area.  He was pre-deceased by his sister Martha Fast and his brother Henry Goerzen.

Rudy was born in 1934 in Coaldale, Alberta.  He moved to Kelowna with his parents at the age of 10.  Many will remember him from Peoples Food Market in Kelowna as he worked there for 26 years as a Meat Department Manager, starting in 1968.

Rudy led a rich, full life always following his passions.  One of his many passions was music and he was a skilled guitar player.  He loved the outdoors and pursued many sporting activities throughout the years.  In 1989, Rudy and Ethel moved to Burton.  It was here he discovered his new passion of mountain climbing and he took pride in his various climbing pursuits.

He was loved by so many, touched many hearts and will be greatly missed.  A service will be held on June 6th, 2015, 1:00 p.m. in the Burton Community Hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Arrow Lakes Foundation.

The family would like to thank the staff at Arrow Lakes Hospital and Minto House for the care and compassion they gave Rudy while he was there.
